1905 Virginia gubernatorial election
The governor of Virginia was elected on November 7, 1905. Democrat Claude A. Swanson won the race, defeating Republican Lunsford L. Lewis. Swanson received 84,235 votes (64.5%), while Lewis received 45,815 votes (35.1%). The outgoing governor was Democrat Andrew Jackson Montague. Swanson’s victory kept the governorship in Democratic hands.
