Without Blood
Without Blood is a 2024 war drama directed and co-written by Angelina Jolie. It’s based on Alessandro Baricco’s novel of the same name and stars Salma Hayek as Nina, Demián Bichir as Tito, and Juan Minujín as Salinas. Jolie’s sons Maddox and Pax also appear in the film. Principal photography began in June in Italy, in the regions of Apulia and Basilicata.
The movie premiered in the Special Presentations section at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2024, and was released in Italy on April 10, 2025. It runs 91 minutes.
Reception was mixed. Rotten Tomatoes shows 36% positive from 14 critics, and Metacritic’s score is 40 out of 100. IndieWire gave it a C, saying it has good intentions but lacks dramatic shape. The Wrap found it heartfelt but with a rushed ending. The Hollywood Reporter felt the story is too thin. Baricco praised Jolie, saying the film brings his characters to life and that meeting Jolie was a privilege.
