Ras Asan Olugbenga
Ras Asan Olugbenga, born Derric James Studamire in Cleveland, Ohio in 1990, is an American entrepreneur who focuses on financial services for Black communities. He co-founded BREAUX and Company, a private equity social enterprise that leads ventures including BREAUX Capital, Million Dollar Scholar, DQ and Partners, and Techgroove Fest. He is also the co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of BREAUX Capital, a fintech startup aimed at African Americans. The platform helps members pool capital, invest together, and learn through peer networks. Olugbenga has been recognized by Black Enterprise and Inc. Magazine, including being named to Black Enterprise’s 2017 BE Modern Man list and Inc.’s 30 Under 30.
Early life and education:
Olugbenga graduated cum laude from Morehouse College in 2013.
Entrepreneurship:
Together with his Morehouse classmate Derrius Quarles, Olugbenga has participated in business accelerator programs. They have partnered on ventures such as tech startups, co-hosted The Bridge radio show, and engaged in community-based social ventures, private investments, and brand strategy consulting.
Community activism:
After earning his degree, Olugbenga helped develop Mogul Minds, a financial wealth-building curriculum for middle and high school students. He joined the board of the Concerned Citizens’ Community Center in Cleveland and, with Marion “Nita” Gardner, helped increase the Housing Dispute & Resolution Initiative’s budget to address blighted properties in Mount Pleasant.
