Willy Reske
Willy Julius Reske (September 25, 1897 – September 17, 1991) was a German-born organist and composer known for church and choral music. He wrote hundreds of hymns and organ pieces, and two of his tunes are in the 1985 English edition of the LDS hymnbook.
Reske was born in Königsberg, East Prussia, to Julius Reske and Louise Schmidtke. He joined the LDS Church in 1922 in Germany and married Martha Louise Wiemer in 1923. In 1926 he emigrated to Brooklyn, New York. He served as the organist at the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Paul’s for 33 years. Reske died in Fultonville, New York, at age 93.
