David Booker
David Booker (born 1954) is an Australian sculptor and artist known for large-scale works and pencil drawings. He was born in Australia in 1954 and studied in Sydney and Hobart, Tasmania. His first solo show was in 1983 in the main foyer of Sydney’s Central Railway Station. Since then, he has exhibited both solo and in groups, often in Italy’s cities of art and in contemporary buildings.
In 1989 he moved to Umbria, Italy, where he lives and works in a house–workshop. Booker's sculpture is monumental and often designed to fit specific architectural settings. He has also shown pencil drawings since the 1980s.
His still-life drawings focus on boxes, cartons, and other packaging collected from recycling bins. He arranges these found objects and draws them in large compositions using pencil, graphite, and pastels. He uses light and shadow to reveal the beauty of materials that are usually ignored in daily life. By portraying waste in a new way, he makes discarded objects feel unique and alive.
