Willoughby Hamilton (born 1907)
Willoughby Hamilton (27 October 1907 – 23 February 1971) was an Irish badminton player who competed internationally. Not to be confused with his uncle, the famous tennis player Willoughby Hamilton.
He won five Irish Open titles between 1929 and 1934, including four singles. He also won seven Scottish Open titles (three in singles) and five Welsh International titles (three singles). He represented Ireland and played for the Leinster Interprovincial team in 1936.
Family connections were strong in sport. His father, Blayney Hamilton, played badminton and cricket for Ireland. His uncles included William Drummond Hamilton (cricket and tennis) and another Willoughby Hamilton (a former world No. 1 in tennis), as well as Francis Cole Lowry Hamilton (cricket for Ireland). Two of his siblings, Arthur and Mavis Hamilton, were also badminton players.
