Antonio I della Scala
Antonio I della Scala (1362–3 September 1388) was the Lord of Verona from 1375 to 1387. He ruled first with his brother Bartolomeo after their father Cansignorio della Scala died. He married Samaritana da Polenta in 1378. In 1381 he is believed to have poisoned Bartolomeo and then ruled alone. He was deposed in 1387 by Gian Galeazzo Visconti, Duke of Milan. While trying to raise troops to retake Verona, Antonio died suddenly in 1388 in Tredozio near Faenza; the circumstances are unclear. He was probably buried in Ravenna. His reign is remembered for his efforts to improve Verona's fortunes and to maintain the della Scala legacy. His son Canfrancesco della Scala later claimed Verona.
