William Thomasson (trade unionist)

William Thomasson OBE JP (20 February 1867 – 19 March 1940) was a British trade unionist. He was born in Bolton, Lancashire, to John and Jane Thomasson. He joined local unions for card and blowing room workers and soon worked for them, first collecting dues and then as an organiser. He became secretary of the Atherton Cardroom Union. In 1920 he was elected General Secretary of the Amalgamated Association of Card and Blowing Room Operatives. From 1924 he also served as president of the United Textile Factory Workers' Association. He was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1935. By that year he was in poor health and resigned from all his trade union posts. He died in March 1940.
