Fatehpur is a small village and gram panchayat in Yamunanagar district, Haryana, India, located in Jagadhri tehsil. It’s also known as Fatehpur-123.
The village came into existence in the mid-19th century and was founded by Fateh Singh Kamboj, after whom it is named. The first village caretaker (nambardar) was Ch. Kundan Lal. Fatehpur Gram Panchayat used to include two villages, Fatehpur and Behrampur, but Behrampur got its own panchayat in 2010.
According to the 2011 census, Fatehpur has 301 households and a total population of 1,484 (755 men and 729 women). The village is culturally diverse, with Kambojs forming a majority. Other communities include Brahmins, Dalits, Banias, and a few Muslim Telis.
The village has concrete roads and paved streets, and solar street lights have been installed under the Surya Urja Scheme. There is a government school in Fatehpur that provides education up to matriculation and was established in 1983. Other facilities include a post office, an old age home, and a veterinary hospital. There are separate chaupals for Kambojs and Valmikis, and a community hall that sees little use.
Fatehpur is the only village in its gram panchayat, with the village caretaker (nambardar) Naresh Kamboj and an elected head (sarpanch); the sarpanch was Chotu Ram, elected in January 2016. Panchayat members are elected every five years.
Politically, Fatehpur falls under the Ambala parliamentary constituency (MP Rattan Lal Kataria) and the Yamuna Nagar assembly constituency (MLA Ghanshyam Das). It is part of Jagadhri tehsil, with Ward 11 in the Zila Parishad and Ward 12 in the Panchayat Samiti.
