Will Varty

Will Varty, full name John William Varty, is a former English footballer who played as a defender. He was born on 1 October 1976 in Workington, Cumbria, and is 6 ft tall. He started his career with Carlisle United as a youth and played for their first team from 1995 to 1999, making 62 league appearances. He had a loan spell at Northampton Town in 1998 (no appearances) and another loan at Rotherham United in 1999 (16 appearances). He then joined Rotherham United from 1999 to 2001, making 33 league appearances. He returned to Carlisle United for the 2001–2002 season but did not appear in the league, and was loaned to Workington in 2001. In 2002 he moved to non-league Workington, his hometown club, where he played until retiring in 2005 due to family and work commitments.
