Acrotriche aggregata
Acrotriche aggregata, commonly known as red cluster heath, tall acrotriche, or tall groundberry, is a flowering shrub in the heath family (Ericaceae) that is endemic to eastern Australia. It grows as an erect, spreading plant about 0.4–1.2 m tall, occasionally reaching up to about 3 m.
Leaves are elliptic to egg-shaped, 8–34 mm long and 2.1–7 mm wide, with a white underside showing many veins. Flowers appear in spikes of 5–10, with bracteoles 1.0–1.2 mm long at the base of the sepals. Sepals are 1.4–2.8 mm long, and the petals are joined at the base to form a pale green, cream-colored, or white tube 1.5–4 mm long, with lobes 0.7–2 mm long. Flowering occurs from September to October. The fruit is a red, flattened spherical drupe 3.8–7 mm in diameter.
This species was first described in 1810 by Robert Brown, and the name aggregata means “clustered” or “grouped.” Acrotriche aggregata grows in forest and rainforest habitats from Daintree National Park in Queensland to Yerranderie in New South Wales.
