White Rock Creek (Kansas)

White Rock Creek is a river in northern Kansas, part of the central Great Plains. It begins in Republic County and flows into Jewell County, where it joins the Republican River. In May 1869, the mouth of White Rock Creek was the site of a deadly attack in which six buffalo hunters from Waterville were killed by Cheyenne Dog Soldiers. Earlier that month, the Excelsior Colony from New York claimed land along the creek and built a blockhouse north of what is now Mankato. By June 1869, all the settlers had left due to conflicts with Native Americans.
