Wells Fargo and Company Express Building
Wells Fargo and Company Express Building is a historic commercial building in Silver Reef, Utah. Built around 1877, it is one of the town’s three surviving structures. Local masons George Brooks and Ira McMullin built it from red sandstone, with finished ashlar masonry on the front and coursed rubble on the other sides. A parapet surrounds the single-slope roof on the front and sides. The main level has two equal rooms, each with two front entrances and a rear entrance, and a vault on one side. The basement, used as a stable, does not connect to the upper floors.
Over the years, the building housed Wells Fargo offices, then a mine supply store, and later the Colbath family residence. Its last use was as offices for the Western Gold and Uranium Company, which added a rear porch. The building sits on about 0.2 acres and is owned by Washington County. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 11, 1971 (reference number 71000861). Today it has been restored and operates as a museum as part of the Wells Fargo Silver Reef Monument.
