Jersey Mills, Pennsylvania
Jersey Mills is an unincorporated community in McHenry Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Callahan Run flows into Pine Creek at Jersey Mills, and the Pine Creek Rail Trail passes through the village.
The first white settlers arrived in the late 1700s and early 1800s. For about 100 years, lumbering and farming were the main ways people earned a living. The first lumber mill began operating in 1809, and crops like cereals and potatoes were grown. The village was officially established in 1855, when its post office opened. Later, flagstone quarries provided income as lumbering declined. The town had a one-room school through 1946 and a general store with a boarding house through 1965. The last small general store operated from 1980 to 2007.
