Waverly, Indiana
Waverly is a small, unincorporated community and census-designated place in Harrison Township, Morgan County, Indiana. It began around 1837 when a canal was built through the area and was once one of two sites considered for Indiana’s state capital. A post office operated from 1862 to 1927. Located along the White River, Waverly has faced severe floods, most recently in 2008, after which Morgan County bought much of the land for recreation. Old Town Waverly Park now sits on the original village site, and the Waverly Bank building has been restored as a small museum with demonstrations of traditional crafts like blacksmithing and tinsmithing. A paved two-mile riverwalk follows the river.
