Water polo at the 2001 World Aquatics Championships took place in Fukuoka, Japan, from July 18 to July 29. The competition featured both men's and women's national teams.

Men's teams included FR Yugoslavia, coached by Nenad Manojlović, and Russia, coached by Aleksandr Kabanov.

The Hungarian women's team competed, coached by Tamás Faragó.
