Phil Larkin
Philip Francis "Fan" Larkin (born 5 October 1941 in Kilkenny) is a former Irish hurler who played as a right corner-back for Kilkenny's senior team from the early 1960s until 1980. He made 35 championship appearances and won five All-Ireland medals, nine Leinster medals, one National Hurling League medal, and four All-Star awards. At club level he played with James Stephens, winning two All-Ireland club titles and two Leinster club titles, while also finding success in Gaelic football with Clann na Gael.
Larkin’s father Paddy and his son Philly (an All-Ireland winner in 2000, 2002 and 2003) also played for Kilkenny. The nickname "Fan" came from his middle name, Francis. He worked as a plasterer in Kilkenny and retired from inter-county play before the 1980 championship. After retiring, he moved into coaching and management, including a spell as Kilkenny’s senior team manager and as a selector. He earned a place on the Kilkenny Hurling Team of the Century and was named among the 125 greatest hurlers of all time in 2009.
