Álvaro V of Kongo
Álvaro V Mpanzu a Nimi was the ruler of the Kingdom of Kongo for a short time in 1636. He belonged to the Kimpanzu kanda and was a cousin of the Kinlaza founders, who would later rule during the Kongo Civil War. Álvaro V came to power after the poisoning of the young king Álvaro IV.
He was jealous of the growing power of Álvaro VI and his brother, and he raised an army against them. They defeated him, but spared his life and he stayed as king for a while. About six months later, he made a second attempt, was killed, and the throne went to Álvaro VI of Kinlaza.
