The Elms is a historic mansion in Natchez, Mississippi, located at 801 Washington Street. It was built in 1804 as a small two-story house with two ground-floor rooms, two rooms upstairs, a two-room attic, and one chimney. In 1815, a two-story wing was added, adding a formal parlor on the first floor and a master bedroom on the second floor. From 1825 to 1835, it served as the Presbyterian manse, and in the early 1840s it was used as a young ladies’ boarding school. In 1859 the house was owned by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Thornhill. After the Civil War, John Posey Drake and Caroline Drake bought the mansion, and it has stayed in their family. The present owner is Esther Carpenter, an artist and a chef. The Elms has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since November 7, 1976. It has operated as a bed and breakfast, but as of July 18, 2025 it is no longer a B&B and is for sale.
