Virtual On
Cyber Troopers Virtual-On is a fast-paced robot fighting game series from Sega. Players steer giant mechs called Virtuaroids in arcade-style battles using twin joysticks and a set of buttons, making reflexes crucial to victory.
The first game, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On, released in arcades worldwide in 1995. Most of the later installments were mostly released in Japan, where the series remains very popular. The mechs were designed by Hajime Katoki, giving the games their distinctive look.
Beyond games, Virtual-On has spawned various merchandise, including plastic models and soundtracks. A PlayStation 4 compilation, Virtual-On Masterpiece 1995-2001, came out in Japan in 2019, collecting the early titles.
The Virtuaroids have also appeared in other media and games, such as crossover references in Super Robot Wars and related titles.
