Virgin and Child with Two Angels (Verrocchio)
Virgin and Child with Two Angels, also called Madonna del Latte, is a Renaissance painting by Andrea del Verrocchio from about 1467–1469. It is tempera on panel and measures 69.2 by 49.8 cm. The work is in the National Gallery, London. The scene shows Mary with the infant Jesus on her lap, flanked by two small angels. They are inside a marble enclosure (hortus conclusus) with a simple landscape in the background. The painting reflects the influence of Filippo Lippi. Botticelli later drew inspiration from Verrocchio’s work for his Madonna and Child and Two Angels, now in Naples.
