Violetta Bovt (Violetta Trofimovna Bovt) was an American–Soviet ballet dancer born on May 9, 1927, in Los Angeles. Her father, a communist sympathizer, moved the family to the Soviet Union in the 1930s; he died while fighting in World War II near Leningrad.

Bovt graduated from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in 1944 and began dancing at the Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre. She was a frequent guest at the Bolshoi and Mariinsky, but she never became a permanent member because she kept her American citizenship, and she was not allowed to perform in the United States.

She spent 42 years at the Stanislavski theatre, 35 as a dancer and 7 as a teacher. A 1968 biographical TV film about Bovt, “Interview that Never Happened,” was produced. In 1987 she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she joined BalletMet. She died on April 22, 1995, in Columbus, at the age of 67.
