Billy Wayte is a former Canadian football defensive back who played in the CFL from 1961 to 1966. Born July 3, 1938, in San Mateo, California, he played college football at Fresno State. Wayte spent four seasons with the Montreal Alouettes (1961–1964), where he also contributed as a punt and kick returner; his best year there was 1963, when he intercepted 5 passes. In 1965 he joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and played two seasons (1965–1966), appearing in all 14 games each year. He led the Eastern Conference with 9 interceptions in 1965, helping Hamilton win the Grey Cup, and earned CFL All-Star and East All-Star honors. He had 4 interceptions in 1966 before retiring after the season and returning to California to become a high school teacher.
