Vern Rutsala (February 5, 1934 – April 2, 2014) was an American poet. He was born in McCall, Idaho. He earned a B.A. at Reed College and an M.F.A. at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He taught English and creative writing at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon for more than forty years, retiring in 2004. He also taught briefly at the University of Minnesota, Bowling Green State University, the University of Redlands, and the University of Idaho. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He died in Oregon on April 2, 2014.
