Liamone landscape
The Liamone landscape, also known as Ensemble Liamone, is a western Corsican region protected for its scenery. It stretches from the Gulf of Sagone to the Monte Rotondo massif and Monte d'Oro, and includes the Sagone, Liamone, and Liscia river watersheds, which have formed a large coastal plain. The area is a valley set among mountains, home to olive trees, hazelnuts, figs, vineyards, and wheat, with chestnut forests and ferns in wilder spots.
The coast along the RD81 road has two bays. In the north, Anse de Sagone features two beaches sheltered from winds by Punta di Trio and is now largely urbanized, with a marina and a seaside resort built since the 1970s on the site of the ancient city of Sagone. In the south, towns cluster around Tiuccia and the Golfe de Liscia, with a long sandy beach between two rocky points. A coastal barrier keeps the Liamone river water inside, creating calm waters behind it. The San Giuseppe and Liamone beaches are less crowded and have stayed largely natural. The landscape contains seven units.
