Verba (band)
Verba is a Polish band from Piła, formed in 1997 by Bartłomiej Kielar (Bartas) and Ignacy Ereński. They started in pop-leaning projects and experimented with techno, house, electro and jungle, but soon shifted to hip-hop. At first Bartek wrote the music and Ignacy wrote the lyrics, and later both began writing. Hip-hop became their main style. Verba grew out of the early hip-hop group Squad Centralny and went through several name changes, including BRAx2 and Mechanizm, before becoming Verba. They also used the name VerbaFreniX for a while and released two videos before settling on Verba.
Their first major-label album Ósmy marca helped raise their popularity, and they have since released six albums (four studio, two compilations) and nine videos, winning many awards. Verba influenced other Polish rap artists such as Ascetoholix, Jeden Osiem L, Mezo, Owal and 52 Dębiec. They have earned Debut of the Year, were nominated for Album of the Year and Band of the Year, and their album Dwudziesty pierwszy listopada won Best Hip Hop Album. They have placed second in Hip Hop - Polska and third as Zespół Roku (Band of the Year). The group remains active.
Current members include Bartłomiej Kielar and Przemysław Malita, with Ignacy Ereński listed as a past member.
