Ve státním zájmu
Ve státním zájmu (In the National Interest) is a contemporary Czech comedy by Antonín Procházka about love and politics. It follows people who use the idea of the “national interest” to justify their actions.
The story features a slightly goofy inventor, the widow of the owner of the Družba pipeline, and a philandering politician who crosses party lines. There’s also a sports commentator who learns that fair play isn’t always present in sports, and a young filmmaker looking for true love or a sponsor. These are the main characters, with an antihero today who relentlessly defends the state’s interests and a lobbyist representing morally questionable professions. The play shows the tough reality of current politics, but, like in theatre, it can end with a hopeful happy ending.
In this comedy, ordinary people and crooks both move the plot, but the stage offers a chance for a satisfying conclusion.
