Aegean Sea (website)
The Aegean Sea, also known as Aiqinhai, was a Hangzhou-based Chinese website focused on humanistic ideas and freedom of expression. It was founded on May 20, 2001, by Zhang Jianhong, who led the site, with poet Bei Dao as a senior advisor. The site called itself “The Last Clean Paradise of Chinese Literatures” and promoted freedom and democracy. It was shut down by Zhejiang authorities on March 9, 2006 for allegedly violating Internet regulations.
