Vary, Zakarpattia Oblast
Vary is a village in western Ukraine, in Zakarpattia Oblast, within Berehove Raion. It lies about 17 kilometres southeast of Berehove, at the meeting point of the Tisza and Borzsova rivers, near the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. The name comes from the Hungarian word vár, meaning castle. Vary was first mentioned in 1320 as Vári and was also known as Borsovavára. In 1921 its population was 2,625, mostly Hungarians. By 2012 there were 3,302 residents, of whom 3,008 were Hungarians.
