Under Two Flags (play)
Under Two Flags is a five-act play by Paul M. Potter, based on Ouida’s 1867 novel. It opened on Broadway at the Garden Theatre on February 5, 1901 and ran for 135 performances, closing in June. The production was produced by Charles Frohman and David Belasco, with Belasco directing. The cast included Campbell Gollan as the Marquis of Chateauroy, Francis Carlyle as Bertie Cecil, and Blanche Bates as Cigarette. While it played, The King's Carnival, a musical burlesque at the Olympia Theatre, mocked courtly dramas and spoofed Potter’s work. Potter later was credited as a screenwriter for the 1915 silent film adaptation directed by Travers Vale.
