Ulysses is a writing app for Apple devices—macOS, iPadOS, and iOS. It offers a clean, distraction-free space for writing and uses Markdown for simple formatting. The program is named after James Joyce’s novel and is designed to help writers focus on their words rather than layout.

Developed by The Soulmen (Ulysses GmbH & Co. KG), Ulysses started on macOS and later added iPhone and iPad support. A public beta for version 2.0 appeared in 2009, and the 2.0 upgrade brought a new interface, text bookmarks, a Document Trash, and Project Templates. Since version 11, Ulysses has used a subscription (SaaS) license, and a standard version is also available on Setapp.

In 2016, Ulysses won the Apple Design Award. The latest stable release is version 36, released on October 29, 2024. The official website is ulysses.app.
