Ubiquiti Inc. is an American technology company that makes wireless and wired networking gear for homes and businesses. It was founded in 2003 in San Jose, California by Robert Pera and is now based in New York City. The company is publicly traded on the NYSE as UI and is part of the Russell 1000. What it sells
Ubiquiti’s best-known brand is UniFi, a broad line of networking products for homes, small offices, and enterprises, including wireless access points, switches, IP cameras, and security/door systems. Other brands include AmpliFi (consumer-friendly mesh routers), EdgeMax (wired routers and switches), UISP (gear for internet service providers), airMAX, airFiber, and UFiber (wireless and fiber networking), and GigaBeam. The company also develops software to manage its devices, including UniFi OS and the UniFi Network, Protect, and Access apps. UniFi OS runs on devices called UniFi OS Consoles (such as the Dream Machine, Dream Router, Dream Wall, and Cloud Key), while the UniFi Network Controller can run on Windows, macOS, Linux, or FreeBSD. WiFiman is a network speed test and analysis tool available as apps and a web version.

History and highlights
Ubiquiti launched its IPO on October 13, 2011, offering about 7.04 million shares at $15 each and raising around $30.5 million. The company’s first product line was the Super Range mini-PCI radio cards, followed by XR cards that used non-standard 802.11 bands to reduce congestion. In 2007, Italian amateur radio operators set a long-distance record using Ubiquiti’s XR5 products.

Security, legal, and other notes
- In 2013, a security flaw in U-Boot on some devices could expose device configurations; the issue was fixed in newer hardware, and GPL-licensed code was eventually released after initial hesitation.
- In 2015, Ubiquiti reported a loss of about $46.7 million from a finance department fraud where funds were stolen through impersonation.
- The company has faced various GPL licensing questions over the years, with matters resolved and updates issued.
- In 2021, there were reports of a potential data breach involving cloud accounts; a whistleblower later claimed the company downplayed the breach, though Ubiquiti said customer data was not targeted or accessed. In December 2021, a former senior employee was charged with data theft and wire fraud related to the incident, and The Verge reported that the case shed new light on the breach.
- Ubiquiti sued cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs for defamation over coverage of the security issues; the dispute was settled in 2022.
- The company paid a civil penalty in 2014 for sanctions violations related to Iran.
- There have been reports that Ubiquiti gear has been used by some Russian military-linked actors in Ukraine.
- In 2019, Ubiquiti again faced GPL-related violations.

Overall, Ubiquiti remains a major player in networking gear, built around its flagship UniFi platform, while continuing to address security, licensing, and regulatory challenges.
