Avianca Services
Avianca Services is Avianca’s maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) unit. It sells and provides engineering and maintenance services, airport assistance, and training for aviation organizations. The company is based at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia, and is accredited by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority.
Its customers include international airlines such as Iberia, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, Aerolíneas Argentinas, and Copa Airlines; cargo carriers like DHL Aero Expreso, FedEx Express, and UPS Airlines; and other Colombian airlines. Avianca Services also offers training to aircraft manufacturers, international cargo agencies, and other aviation-related companies operating in the region.
In 2004, Avianca reorganized after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, with a plan backed by the Synergy Group and the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia that raised about USD 63 million. On May 10, 2020, Avianca filed for Chapter 11 in the United States after failing to pay bondholders, in a period heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
