USS Tipton
USS Tipton (AK-215) was an Alamosa-class cargo ship built for the U.S. Navy near the end of World War II. Named for Tipton Counties in Indiana and Tennessee, she was laid down in December 1944 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, launched in March 1945, and commissioned in October 1945. Soon after, she was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard and renamed Unalga. As a Coast Guard construction-supply freighter, Unalga helped build LORAN stations around the world, mainly in the Pacific Northwest. She assisted the M/V Kasilof on 28 November 1948. Decommissioned in early 1950, she was turned back to MARCOM and later placed in the Reserve Fleet in June 1950. In January 1971 she was sold for scrap and renamed Sea-Alaska, becoming a fish factory ship owned by Trident Seafoods. She was scrapped in 2007.
