USS Lebanon (AK-191)
USS Lebanon (AK-191) was an Alamosa-class cargo ship built for the U.S. Navy toward the end of World War II. It was laid down on May 15, 1944, by Walter Butler Shipbuilding in Superior, Wisconsin, launched on October 14, 1944, and acquired by the Navy on August 25, 1945. It was named for Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, and originally carried the name Coastal Archer (1944–1945). The ship was commissioned on September 26, 1945.
After the war ended, the Lebanon was decommissioned on November 15, 1945 and returned to the Maritime Commission. It was renamed Coastal Archer and was operated by several U.S. shipping companies from 1945 to 1948, then placed in reserve.
In 1956, Brazil bought Coastal Archer for coastal service. It was delivered on August 22, 1956, and later scrapped in 1986. The ship’s final disposition is unknown.
