Ali Baal Masdar
Ali Baal Masdar (born 29 May 1960 in Makassar) is an Indonesian politician. He served as the governor of West Sulawesi from 2017 to 2022 and was the regent of Polewali Mandar Regency from 2004 to 2014.
He studied at STIA LAN-RI Ujung Pandang and Hasanuddin University. Masdar has been a member of the Golkar party since 2019, after being with Gerindra until 2019. He is married to Andi Ruskati Radjab and they have two children. His brother is Andi Ibrahim Masdar.
Masdar’s election as governor faced several problems: thousands of ballots were damaged and had to be reprinted; bad weather and mountainous terrain made polling and ballot delivery difficult; and hundreds of police officers were deployed to the polls to prevent unrest, even though quick counts already indicated his victory.
