Newark Showground
Newark Showground is a large events site in Newark, Nottinghamshire. It sits on more than 150 acres of the former RAF Winthorpe Airfield, bought in 1964 by the Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society.
The site hosts a variety of events. The LAMMA agricultural machinery show used to be held here, but it isn’t anymore. The show is run by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Association and the Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society. It began in 1981 as a major showcase for the latest farming equipment and quickly drew visitors from all over the UK. In 2012, LAMMA’s organization was bought by Briefing Media, the parent company of Farmers Guardian.
Newark Showground is also used for one week each year by New Wine for their North and East Festival, and New Wine keeps equipment there year-round in storage.
The grounds host one of the UK’s largest Vintage Tractor events. This event started in 2002 and has grown rapidly; in 2009 it featured International Harvester as the marquee, with more than 100 tractors on show, including the first Farmall H built in the UK and the last one produced before the factory closed.
In 2019, Newark Showground hosted the European Juggling Convention. In early 2018, it was announced that a new rock festival, Stonedeaf (now Stonedead), would be held there. The festival has taken place every summer since, except 2020 due to the pandemic. The stage is named after the late DJ Tommy Vance, and past headliners have included Skid Row, Glenn Hughes, Uriah Heep, Michael Schenker Group, Blue Öyster Cult, Saxon, The Almighty, and Europe.
Newark Showground is a versatile venue for a wide range of events in this part of Nottinghamshire.
