UEA School of Biological Sciences
UEA's School of Biological Sciences is a research-focused academic community. It partners with industry to turn research into products, offer consultancies and contract research, provide analytical services, and train both undergraduate and postgraduate students with industry links.
In the seven-year RAE 2008 period, the School won £38.5 million in peer-reviewed, competitive grants, about £5 million a year. More than 90% of its research income comes from UK Research Councils, the EU, or research charities.
Its research connects with national organisations such as the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquacultural Science and the Public Health Laboratory Service, and with international bodies including the US Department of Energy, the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research, and Birdlife International.
Research is organized into three major themes.
It offers 20 full-time undergraduate degree programmes (plus three part-time degrees) across many subjects. About 150 home and international students join each year to study for Honours degrees.
It also runs several master’s degree programmes in areas such as Applied Ecology and Conservation, Plant Genetics, Crop Improvement, Biotechnology for a Sustainable Future, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security, and Molecular Medicine.
