Tyler Zeller
Tyler Paul Zeller (born January 17, 1990) is a former American basketball player. He played college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels, helping them win the 2009 NCAA championship as a freshman and earning national and ACC honors in his senior year.
He grew up in Washington, Indiana, where he went to Washington High School and became Indiana Mr. Basketball in 2008. He also earned a McDonald’s All-American honor. Zeller joined UNC in 2008 and, as a senior, was the ACC Player of the Year and an All-American.
In the NBA, Zeller was drafted 17th overall in 2012 by the Dallas Mavericks and was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers on draft night. He played in the NBA from 2012 to 2020 for the Cavaliers, Celtics, Nets, Bucks, Hawks, Grizzlies, and Spurs. He averaged about 6.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game. A notable moment in his career was an emergency appendectomy in 2013.
After retiring, Zeller moved to Pittsboro, North Carolina, and began coaching at Northwood High School. He also plays in UNC alumni games and joined the Tar Heel Sports Network in 2024 as a color analyst. He is the brother of Cody and Luke Zeller and nephew of Al Eberhard. He is married with three children and is 6'11" tall, weighing about 250 pounds.
