Trygve Braarud (15 September 1903 – 9 July 1985) was a Norwegian botanist who specialized in marine biology and the study of plankton. He spent most of his career at the University of Oslo.

Early life and education
- Born in Verdal, Norway. He had ten older siblings and a twin sister.
- Attended a private school run by his father, then finished secondary school at Trondheim Cathedral School in 1921.
- Earned his cand.real. degree from the University of Oslo in 1927.

Career
- His early work included the Øst Expedition to the Denmark Strait (1929) published in two volumes. The hydrography volume (co-authored with J. T. Ruud) appeared in 1932, and The Phytoplankton and its Conditions of Growth (1935) earned him the dr.philos. degree.
- He began as a research assistant in planktology under Haaken Hasberg Gran (1926–1933).
- From 1934 to 1936 he was a research fellow in plant physiology and spent time in Denmark with August Krogh in 1935.
- He became an associate professor at the University of Oslo in 1936 and a full professor of marine biology in 1947.

Organizations and honors
- Co-founded Norske havforskere forening (Norwegian Association of Fisheries Scientists) in 1949 and served as its spokesperson from 1962 to 1965.
- Served as vice president of the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research.
- Member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters since 1942; also a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and Letters since 1959 and the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters since 1963.

Death and legacy
- Died on 9 July 1985 in Oslo.
- In 1947, a type of algae named Braarudosphaera was published in his honor.
