Trichocentrum pumilum
Trichocentrum pumilum is a small orchid found from Brazil to northeastern Argentina. It grows as a pseudobulbous epiphyte in hot savannahs and montane forests, and it blooms in winter and spring.
Description:
- Size: miniature orchid with clustered pseudobulbs.
- Leaves: a single, leathery leaf at the tip of each growth; upright, oblong to strap-shaped, with a pointed end.
- Flower stalks: short and erect, about 5–8 cm long, with many small flowers.
- Flowers: 5–8 mm wide; the inflorescence has numerous tiny blooms. Bracts are leathery, ovate, and pointed; flowers are bell-shaped.
Distribution and classification:
- Belongs to the genus Trichocentrum in the orchid family.
- Also known in older classifications as Oncidium pumilum.
