Sexy Versus
Sexy Versus is the third studio album by Al B. Sure!. It was released on September 22, 1992, and was recorded from 1991 to 1992. The album blends R&B and new jack swing and runs 73 minutes and 31 seconds. It was released by Warner Bros. Records and produced by Vincent Gilbert, Kevin Deane, Kiyamma Griffin, Vincent Herbert, Al B. Sure!, DeVanté Swing, Howie Tee, and Kyle West.
This was Sure!’s first album released exclusively by Warner Bros. Records; his previous two albums were on Uptown Records with Warner Bros. handling distribution. The album wasn’t as successful as his first two, but it still did well on the charts, reaching No. 41 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Three singles from the album charted on Billboard: “Natalie,” “Right Now,” and “I Don’t Wanna Cry.” The track “See The Lady” is a remix of the song “Channel J” from his previous album Private Times...and the Whole 9!
The album’s second single, “Natalie,” was inspired by actress Halle Berry after Sure! saw her in the 1991 film Strictly Business. In 2014, he said on Twitter that the album’s success and Berry inspired “Natalie.” On November 16, 2018, it was revealed that one photo in the CD booklet shows Al B. Sure! with his ex, Kim Porter.
