Travis Sanheim
Travis Sanheim (born March 29, 1996) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman and alternate captain for the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL. He was drafted 17th overall by the Flyers in 2014. He has a fraternal twin brother, Taylor, and grew up on a farm in Elkhorn, Manitoba.
Sanheim played for the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL, where he became a top-scoring defenseman. In 2014-15 he had 65 points in 67 games. After turning pro, he began with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL and made his NHL debut with the Flyers in 2017-18, scoring his first NHL goal on December 14, 2017, against the Buffalo Sabres. He played in the 2018 playoffs, recording his first playoff goal on April 15, 2018.
He signed a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Flyers in 2019. After a tougher 2020-21 season, he signed a two-year extension in 2021. In October 2022, he signed an eight-year, $50 million extension to stay with the Flyers through 2031. Internationally, Sanheim has represented Canada, including leading defensemen in points at the 2014 World U18 Championship and earning bronze; he was named one of Canada’s top three players and Best Defenseman in that tournament. He was named to Canada’s roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
