List of earthquakes in 1950
Earthquakes in 1950 were dominated by several very large events around the world. The year had many strong quakes, including 21 events of magnitude 7.0 or greater, with thousands of lives lost overall. The deadliest quake was in India’s Arunachal Pradesh on August 15, an 8.6-magnitude event that caused about 1,530 deaths.

- April: Strongest quake was 6.9 Mw in the Russian SFSR; no deaths reported.
- May: Strongest quake was 7.1 Mw in the New Hebrides; deadliest was a 6.0 Mw quake in Peru with about 83 deaths.
- June: Strongest quake was 6.9 Mw in the New Hebrides; deadliest was 6.6 Mw in Indonesia with 16 deaths.
- July: Strongest quake was 7.5 Mw in Afghanistan; no deaths reported.
- August: Strongest and deadliest quake was 8.6 Mw in India (Arunachal Pradesh); about 1,530 deaths.
- September: Strongest quake was 7.2 Mw in Indonesia; no deaths reported.
- October: Strongest quake was 7.5 Mw in Costa Rica; deadliest was 7.3 Mw in Indonesia with 1 death.
- November: Strongest quake was 7.7 Mw in Indonesia; no deaths reported.
- December: Strongest quake was 8.2 Mw in Chile; deadliest was 6.3 Mw in Peru with about 4 deaths.
