Transport Corps (Ireland)
The Transport Corps (An Cór Iompair) is a combat service support unit of the Irish Army, part of the Defence Forces. Its job is to provide heavy lift transport and logistics for the Defence Forces. It handles the purchase and maintenance of all non-armored vehicles, keeps armored vehicles in service, and supplies fuel, oils and lubricants. It also sets and checks driving standards, including driver training, testing and certification.
The Field Transport Company supports the Infantry with transport and logistics, delivering supplies such as petroleum products, ammunition and rations, and providing second-line maintenance, repair and recovery for infantry units.
The Transport Vehicle Maintenance School (TVMS) is part of the Defence Forces Training Centre and reports to the Directorate of Transport. TVMS trains Defence Forces personnel in driving and vehicle maintenance for use at home and overseas, and works with external organisations to share best practices.
