Torreblanca
Torreblanca is a small town in Castellón province, in the Valencian Community of Spain. It lies by the Mediterranean Sea, just south of the Serra d'Irta mountains, about 36 km northeast of Castellón de la Plana on the Costa del Azahar. The town covers about 30 square kilometers and has around 5,700 residents. People from Torreblanca are called Torreblanquí (men) or torreblanquina (women). The official languages are Valencian and Spanish.
Historically, Torreblanca was conquered from the Saracens by James I of Aragon in the 13th century and repopulated. In 1379 it was raided by Barbary corsairs and destroyed. The area also saw fighting during the Carlist Wars in the 19th century. The coast near the town had malaria up to the mid-20th century, when it was eradicated.
Today the economy relies mainly on seasonal tourism. The municipality has two beaches, Platja de Torrenostra and Platja Nord, which are popular in summer and remain relatively unspoiled.
