Stanley Mburu

Stanley Waithaka Mburu, born 9 April 2000 in Kenya, is a long-distance runner who competes mainly in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres. He first gained international attention in 2017, winning a bronze medal in the 3,000 metres at the World U18 Championships. In 2018 he made his Diamond League debut, finishing third in the 5,000 metres with a personal best of 13:10.14, and helped Kenya to a 1–2 finish in the World U20 5,000 metres with Edward Zakayo ahead of him. Mburu won the Palio Città della Quercia in August 2018 but did not finish at the Memorial Van Damme. He moved to Japan later that year to compete for the Yakult corporate team. In November 2018 he ran 27:13.01 for the 10,000 metres, the fastest time in the world that year. At the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Mburu finished second in the 10,000 metres, behind Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda.
