Toompine is a small town in the Quilpie area of Queensland, Australia. It’s in the Shire of Quilpie and about 77 kilometres south of Quilpie town. The town was surveyed in 1870. The name likely comes from the Aboriginal word Thaumpine, meaning leech. Toompine Provisional School opened in 1900, but in 1901 it shared a teacher with Duck Creek Provisional School and closed in July 1902. There are no schools in Toompine or nearby, so residents use distance education or boarding schools. Today the town has a pub, a town hall, a recreation facility, a tennis court and a playground. The postcode is 4480.
