Agallianos Kontoskeles
Agallianos Kontoskeles (died 18 April 727) was a Byzantine military commander who led a revolt against Emperor Leo III in 726–727. He held the rank of tourmarches in the Theme of Hellas and, with Stephen (a possible naval commander from the Cyclades) and a rebel Kosmas, became the leader of the rebellion. Kosmas was declared emperor by the rebels. The rebel fleet was defeated on 18 April 727 when loyal forces used Greek fire. Agallianos drowned after falling from the deck of his ship into the sea while wearing full armour; Stephen and Kosmas were captured and beheaded. Some sources wrongly link him to the Kontoskalion harbour in Constantinople because his surname means "short-leg."
