Tommy Nuñez
Tommy Núñez (born September 10, 1938) is a former NBA referee and founder of the Tommy Núñez Foundation. He was born in Santa Maria, California, and is of Mexican American descent. In 1972, he joined the NBA and became the first Hispanic referee in a major U.S. sport. After about 30 years, he retired in 2002. He is the father of former NBA referee Tommy Núñez Jr. Since retiring, he has focused on helping kids by giving talks, running summer sports camps, supporting youth programs, and directing the National Hispanic Basketball Tournament.
